Newly Registered Women [Back to Top]

The following table describes the age distribution of women screened for the first time in the CytoBase system during the first quarter of 1999, and as an annualized2 percentage of the female population of the province of Ontario1. In this period, the system captured an annualized 6.19% of the female population.

The qualifying criteria for inclusion in this list are that 1) the patient’s specimen was collected during the time period in question and 2) this is the patient’s first report registered in the system. The criteria used in Volume 1 and 2 of the CytoBase reports were less stringent, counting all patients who were being registered in the database for the first time, regardless of the specimen date. Because of this, the figures appearing in Volume 1 and 2 are not comparable with those in Volume 3.

1 Demography Division, Statistics Canada: preliminary postcensal estimates for 1996 Ontario population.
2 Percent of cohort registered is generated by dividing the number of women registered in the quarter by the Ontario population and then multiplying by four to obtain an estimate for the entire year.

Distribution of Report Diagnoses by Age and Class [Back to Top]

The following table lists reported findings categorized by a diagnostic class (most severe finding on the report) correlated by the woman's age as at the time of the test. The age is calculated based on the woman's date of birth relative to the date of specimen collection. Reports where age could not be determined are not included in the counts.

a INSCYTE will follow-up with the source laboratories for clarification of other malignancies.
b The "other abnormal" category includes findings and/or suspicion of abnormalities that were not formally classified.
c The total number of reports in the above table is less than the number of repors registered because in certain cases the age of the woman, or the diagnostic class cannot be determined from submitted information.
